About the Instructor
I started Jiu Jitsu in 2005 when I was 21 while a student at Edinburgh University. I just wanted to see what doing a martial art would be like and before I knew it I was training several times a week, learned some incredible new stuff and formed an entire new circle of friends that I am close with to this day. People who know me now find it unbelievable that I used to be shy before starting Jitsu but it has massively helped in boosting my confidence, self-awareness, drive and fitness in ways I couldn't have imagined. I think if I have learned anything from my martial arts journey is that you never know what something may be like until you give it a try...it may end up being the thing you enjoy most in life.
I have also had been fortunate enough to have some individual success on the way, earning a Gold Medal at the Nationals Competition as a dark blue belt in 2009, and getting my brown belt and teaching certificate in 2010. I co-founded and taught the Heriot-Watt University Jiu Jitsu Club in 2011 and, following my move to Vienna in 2012, I set up the Vienna International Jitsu Club in autumn 2014. Since then, I have also taught at several national and international events, including brown belt+ sessions in the UK, the 2019 Scottish Nationals and the 2019 Jitsu Internationals in South Africa and regularly run self-defence courses. I currently hold the rank of second-degree black belt (2nd Dan), which I achieved in 2019.
